Interview with Daria Matkova
Today we are going to interview Daria Matkova, an experienced fashion model with an impressive track record in the industry. Daria has walked for some of the most prestigious fashion houses and and has graced the pages of numerous fashion magazines such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle and many others. In this interview, we’ll get a glimpse into her journey as a model and learn her insights about world of fashion.
DK Films Magazine: Hi Daria! Today we’d like to delve into the world of fashion with you and ask you some tricky questions about your recent projects as well as the industry itself. Ok, let’s go! For starters, tell us what you think sets the successful models apart from those struggling to break into the industry?
Daria Matkova: All the successful models once were the beginners as well. But what sets the stage for success is the resilience, focus, strong work ethic and the ability to adapt to the demands of the fashion industry. They have a clear vision of what they want to achieve and are willing to put in the hard work and dedication to reach their goals, developing solid communication skills, positive relationships and a strong reputation within the industry.
It can be easy for young models to become distracted by the allure of the lifestyle that comes along with the occupation. But some models may lose sight of their goals and priorities being in the perpetual spotlight and under pressure to be seen as glamorous and social as possible. This is a pretty common occurrence.
DK Films Magazine: Interesting! Now, would you please share with us the biggest challenge you’ve encountered in your career and the way you managed to overcome it.
Daria Matkova: Hmm… I think the biggest challenge of my career was the need to maintain the uneasy balance between work and education. As a university student, I had to juggle classes, homework, and extracurricular activities with castings, photoshoots, traveling and fashion weeks. It was pretty tough to maintain that balance and there were times when I felt overwhelmed and burnt out. However, I learned to be extremely organized with my time and to prioritize my commitments. I also made sure to communicate effectively with my agency, clients and professors to ensure that everyone was on the same page and all my obligations were met.
Ultimately, this experience taught me the importance of being disciplined and efficient with my time, and it helped me develop certain skills which still play an important role in my life.
DK Films Magazine: Wow, it sounds like you had a lot on your plate! Your ability to manage it all and gain some experience on top of that is quite impressive. The need of robust discipline aside, is it true that in fashion industry models have to deal with lots of rejections? How do you cope with rejection and criticism?
Daria Matkova: Dealing with rejection and criticism can be tough, but it’s all part of the job. When I face it, I try to keep a positive attitude and not let it affect my confidence. I also remind myself that the fashion industry is subjective: tastes, preferences and visions vary from company to company. At the end of the day, I’m not a one hundred dollar bill so not everyone is going to like me. And that’s ok.
DK Films Magazine: Definitely, can’t argue with that haha! Daria, recently you’ve hosted a photo exhibition for DK Films Magazine that featured your recent photoshoot with Dmitry Korikov. Please tell us about this experience.
Daria Matkova: Putting that exhibition together was an absolute delight. First of all, I didn’t expect 200 people to show up! So many creatives and friends showed up to support us, it meant a lot to me. Also collaborating with Dmitry Korikov was truly wonderful. He is so talented and has a great eye. I absolutely loved the art we created together. And hosting this event was definitely an unforgettable experience!
DK Films Magazine: Sounds amazing, the event was definitely great, as the magazine is still getting positive feedback on that. Thank you for the conversation, it was nice talking to you!
